Meet Dr. Julie Erickson

Dr. Julie Erickson is a registered clinical psychologist in Toronto, Canada with over 10 years of clinical experience with adults across the lifespan.

She helps adults of all ages better understand themselves and equips them with the tools they need to make meaningful changes in their lives. Known for being professional, practical, and relatable, Dr. Erickson wants clients to become their own therapist; knowledgeable about how to create emotional and behavioural change in their lives, and doing so with an attitude of self-acceptance and compassion.

Education and Experience

Dr. Erickson’s interest in aging and mental health began while working in a long-term care facility when she was a teenager. She noticed large discrepancies in how people respond to the challenges of aging and wanted to figure out why. This prompted her to pursue a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from MacEwan University, followed by a Master of Arts and PhD in Psychology from the University of Manitoba. She completed her predoctoral residency training at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto, with rotations in the Mood & Anxiety Outpatient Service and the Women’s Inpatient Unit.

A scientist-practitioner at heart, Dr. Erickson is a firm believer in practicing evidence-based treatment and contributing to scientific literature. Her clinical training and experience is largely with modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), with integrated aspects of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Schema Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). She has published in peer-reviewed journals such as Depression & Anxiety, Cognitive and Behavioral Practice, Clinical Psychology Review, and the Journal of Anxiety Disorders, among others.

TEACHING + TRAINING

Dr. Erickson has a strong passion for teaching and clinical training.

She is an Adjunct Faculty Member within the Department of Applied Psychology and Human Development at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto, where she currently teaches a graduate course on advanced cognitive behavioural therapy.  Dr. Erickson has also taught undergraduate courses at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) and The University of Manitoba.

When Dr. Erickson isn’t working she’s either making a mess in the kitchen, taking improv comedy classes, or taking her corgi, Sadie, to the dog park.

Let’s work together.
